Getting started

Managed MySQL 8.0 with semi-synchronous replication, automatic failover and backups every 6 hours.

Overview

Managed MySQL on Granite is for applications and frameworks that expect MySQL: WordPress, Laravel, Rails, Django, Spring and many others. Each database is a dedicated MySQL 8.0 cluster that you never have to install, patch or expose to the internet. Provisioning, updates and routine maintenance are handled by the platform; you get the connection details on the database page and spend your time on the product.

Key Features

  • MySQL 8.0 — the current long-term supported release, with InnoDB, JSON columns, window functions and CTEs. Your existing MySQL drivers, ORMs and tooling work without changes.
  • Solo or HA — run a single primary for development and staging, or a 3-node HA cluster: one primary plus two semi-synchronous replicas with automatic failover. Semi-synchronous replication means a transaction is acknowledged only after at least one replica has received it, so a failover does not lose committed data.
  • Read-only endpoint — in HA mode the database gets a second endpoint that routes reads to the replicas, so reporting and read-heavy traffic does not compete with writes on the primary.
  • Backups every 6 hours — backups run four times a day and are stored in external secure storage. You can also create a backup manually from the Backups tab and restore any backup into a new database with the same configuration.
  • Databases and users — create additional databases and users from the Databases & Users tab and grant each user read-only or full access per database.
  • Private by default — the database has no public address. It is reachable only from the applications in your project that you explicitly allow.

Connecting

Connection details (host, port, user, password and a ready-to-use connection string) are shown on the database page; in HA mode the read-only endpoint is shown next to them. Pass these values to your application as secrets rather than committing them to the repository.

To reach the database from your laptop, for example to run a migration, import a dump or open a GUI client, forward the port with the NoVPS CLI (novps port-forward database). The database becomes available on localhost for the duration of the session and nothing is opened up permanently.

Common Use Cases

  • WordPress, WooCommerce and other PHP CMS and e-commerce platforms
  • Laravel, Rails, Django and Spring applications that ship with MySQL support
  • Migrating an existing MySQL workload to a managed service without code changes
  • Read-heavy applications that can route reports to the read-only endpoint

Client Compatibility

Any MySQL 8.0 compatible client or driver works, including mysql and mysqldump, mysqlclient and PyMySQL, mysql2 for Node.js, go-sql-driver/mysql, MySQL Connector/J, MySqlConnector for .NET, and ORMs such as Eloquent, ActiveRecord, SQLAlchemy, Prisma and Hibernate.
